Homemade Bread Bowls

The cold weather moving in makes me want to eat soup every stinkin’ night folks! There’s just something wonderful about hot soup on a cold, Fall day and what’s better than a homemade bread bowl to go with it?! I’ll tell you, just about nothing is better. I always chalked up the thought of making homemade bread bowls as just way too intimidating but I had never even looked into how to make them. They are actually incredibly easy to make, only require minimal ingredients AND I got brownie points from the hubs for making them! {Score :-D} SO, of course, I’m going to share with you all today the recipe. These bread bowls have the perfect amount of crunch on the outside and completely soft and fluffy on the inside which makes them super yummy and addicting! Check out the recipe…

Recipe:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine water and sprinkle yeast on top. Set aside to “proof” for 15 minutes.
  2. Add in melted butter, sugar and salt and mix well.
  3. Gradually add in flour. {I did 2 cups at a time, stirring after each 2 cups added.}
  4. Knead your dough! You can do this with a mixer or by hand for 5 mins or until dough is smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a large, greased bowl, cover the top with plastic wrap and set aside for about 45 mins to let dough rise. {Be sure not to touch dough during this time.}
  6. After your 45 mins is up, push the center of the dough down with your hand.
  7. Roll dough into 6 large, equal sized balls and place on two greased cookie sheets {3 dough balls per cookie sheet} and cover with plastic wrap.
  8. Let the dough set and rise for about 30 more mins. {Once again, be sure not to touch dough while it is rising.}
  9. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees and bake for 20 mins, or until the outside is golden brown.
  10. Let cool and then cut the top of your bread off to fill with your soup of choice!IMG_2695IMG_2688
